Several years ago, I wrote about ICEngineWorks header modeling blocks. I thought they were an incredibly cool idea that makes header fabrication for those impossible engine fitments a far more manageable task. Instead of trial and error, you could now work the header tubes into those tight spots and around crazy bends without the wasted work and headaches you always faced before. It seemed like it was time to take a second look and from all appearances, they’ve been doing exactly what they set out to do, making life easier for anyone building headers.
The concept is amazingly simple, their plastic blocks come in several diameters to match popular tube sizes and in either straight or curved sections. They fit together easily, can be rotated as needed and let you build up your design from exhaust port to collector. When you have all tubes set in place and of proper length, you mark the pieces and recreate the model in metal. Once you see what they do, you have one of those head slapping moments wondering why you didn’t think of it yourself.
Just look at these photos. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, power boats, kit cars, it doesn’t matter, you can make headers for all of them. You’ll start thinking about all of the cool headers you could build, making impossible configurations just so you can point them out to your buddies and casually say, “Yeah, I did that.” This is a really sweet tool for anyone who has to build headers where the stock aftermarket sets just won’t fit or there simply are none available.
